The history of tourism dates back to the beginning of human civilization where people would travel to other cities and towns just to see what they have to offer. When people started living in one place they started visiting other places just for the sake of sightseeing or going on a vacation.

The history of American tourism dates back to the late 18th century when travel was considered as a privilege. The first tourism destination in the United States was Niagara Falls.

The first recorded visit to America by a tourist is believed to have been made by the Englishman, John Ledyard, in 1749. However, it wasn’t until the late 18th century that people started traveling for leisure and pleasure.
